Friday, February 15

Cascade Festival of African Films: The festival runs now through March 2. All films are free. See the event website for schedule information.

“Portlandia” and More: Mission Theater will host two screenings of “Portlandia” (7:00 pm and 10:00 pm), plus music, bits and gags from Reeltime Live before, between and following. Live music by Afroknot.

Saturday, February 16

Guided Nature Walk at Tryon Creek State Natural Area: This week’s theme is “The Art of Owling.” 11321 SW Terwilliger Blvd, Portland, 10:00 am.

Music Millennium Kids Day: Everyone under the age of 18 gets a free goodie bag of music and more, while supplies last, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Free performance by ZZ Ward at 1:00 pm, and Cat Doorman at 3:00 pm.

Zwickelmania: Breweries all over the state will offer tours, samples, and more. Check the event website for locations and schedule.

Family Day at the Oregon Maritime Museum: Free to families with children under the age of 14. SW Naito Parkway and SW Pine St, Portland, 11:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Oregon Historical Society Community Day: Today’s activities focus on black history in Oregon. 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Rwanda: Emmanuel Habimana, Guellord Ndagijimana, and Matthew Rugamba share their stories of the genocide in Rwanda and their plans for the future. Afterward, Nike Foundation employee Teresa Schader will talk about the girl effect in Rwanda. Lake Oswego Library, 11:00 am.

The Incredible World of Bugs: Discover the magic of biodiversity, experience the life of an entomologist (bug scientist), and even pet all sorts of creatures. Gresham Library, 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.

Love of Portland Art Opening: This art exhibit includes pieces by more than 300 artists; each piece pays tribute to our fair city. People’s Art of Portland (700 SW 5th Ave, Ste 4005, Portland), 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

“Cardiac arresting chamber music” is how sponsor Alitisa describes this concert, which features Miguel del Aguila’s “Seduction Dance,” Paul Dukas’ “Sonata,” and more. Community Music Center (3350 SE Francis, Portland), 8:00 pm.

Sunday, February 17

Lunar New Year Celebration: Celebrate the Lunar New Year traditions of China and Vietnam with a traditional lion dance, music, games, food and crafts. Midland Library (805 SE 122nd Ave, Portland), 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

    What do I love about Portland? I love that my grown children, who live far away, see it as a cool city to visit.
