Friday, February 1
Portland Children’s Museum: It’s the first Friday of the month, which means admission is free from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
Camas First Friday: This month’s theme is Chocolate and Wine. Downtown Camas, 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Art shows:
- First Friday Art Walk in SE Portland: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
- Check out art by Red Bat Press at Redux Gallery.
- Architectural Heritage Center is hosting a fiber show.
Cascade Festival of African Films: The festival runs from February 1 through March 2. All films are free. See the event website for schedule information.
“Portlandia” and More: Mission Theater will host two screenings of “Portlandia” (7:00 pm and 10:00 pm), plus music, bits and gags from Reeltime Live before, between and following. Live music by Halfwhit Adlib.
Saturday, February 2
Guided Nature Walk at Tryon Creek State Natural Area: This week’s theme is “Winter Twig Identification.” 11321 SW Terwilliger Blvd, Portland, 10:00 am.
PDX African American Youth Film Festival: Screenings and discussions of three short films, plus screenings of films submitted by local young filmmakers. Mission Theater, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Lunar New Year Celebration: Traditional dance, food, games, and more from China and Vietnam. Gregory Heights Library (7921 NE Sandy Boulevard, Portland), 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Japanese Doll Festival Craft: To celebrate Hinamatsuri, the Japanese Doll Festival, artist Yuki Martin will show how to make origami boxes to hold star-shaped Japanese candies. Northwest Library (2300 NW Thurman St, Portland), 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Native American Hoop Dance: Students from the Native American Youth & Family Center will perform a storytelling dance. Central Library (801 SW 10th Ave, Portland), 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
WORD.VOICE. 2013, at the Fertile Ground Festival: Enjoy character sketches, plays, and new pieces by PlayWrite Inc.’s young writers. Ellyn Bye Studio at the Armory (128 NW 11th Ave, Portland), 3:00 pm.
“The Twelve Tribes of Hattie”: Author Ayana Mathis talks about her book, the newest selection in Oprah’s Book Club 2.0. Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing, 4:00 pm.
Sunday, February 3
Tribal Jewelry Workshop: Learn the history of Native American tribal jewelry and beadwork while creating pieces of your own. North Portland Library (512 N. Killingsworth St, Portland), 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
Ukulele Lesson: Entertainer Cinda Tilgner will have 30 ukuleles and instructional books on hand to teach simple chords and songs. Capitol Hill Library (10723 SW Capitol Hwy, Portland), 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
