Saturday, November 17
Fix-It Fair: Free workshops on saving money, healthy living, and more. Also free: lunch, professional childcare, lead blood testing, bicycle tuneups. Madison High School (2735 NE 82nd Ave, Portland), 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.
Santa Arrival Parade: Join Santa at 10:00 am at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland and walk with him to Pioneer Place. Songs, snow and surprises.
Washington County Museum Free Day: Enjoy a day of activities to celebrate the opening of two exhibits in the museum’s new exhibitions and programming space at the Hillsboro Civic Center (120 E. Main St, Hillsboro). 10:00 am to 8:30 pm.
Portland By Cycle Autumn Rides: Stormwater Gardens & Swales, Oh My! This guided bike ride begins at Hawthorne Hostel (SE Hawthorne Blvd & 31st, Portland), 10:00 am.
Homemade Noodles: Learn how to make fresh, homemade noodles using organic flour. Everyone will leave with noodles to boil at home. North Portland Library (512 N. Killingsworth St, Portland), 11:00 am.
Native American Dance: Painted Sky’s Northstar Dance Company celebrates Native American traditions through music and dance. Midland Library (805 SE 122nd Ave, Portland), 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
Behind the Scenes at LAIKA: Making “ParaNorman”: Two of the studio’s top animators will show how this movie came to be. Production puppets will also be on display. Whitsell Auditorium (1219 SW Park Ave, Portland), 3:00 pm.
American Indian Symbols and Mask Making: Families are invited to learn about Northwest Coast Native American culture through mask making. Kenton Library (8226 N. Denver Ave, Portland), 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
Rachael Yamagata will perform at 3:00 pm at Music Millennium, 3158 E. Burnside St, Portland.
Lighting of Maddax Woods Opening Day Celebration: Enjoy a walk down a lighted path through the woods and to the viewing platform on the Willamette River. 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with live music from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
Sunday, November 18
Native American Flute Demonstration: Nancy and Rob Downie will demonstrate and explain the history of a variety of Native American flutes. Tigard Library (13500 SW Hall Blvd, Tigard), 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
Preview of The Next Waltz: Some of Portland’s finest musicians will perform selections from The Next Waltz, a tribute to the legendary rock concert The Last Waltz. Music Millennium (3158 E. Burnside St, Portland), 3:00 pm.
Portland Center Stage 25th Anniversary Open House: Live entertainment, treats, a craft market, and a photo booth featuring real costumes used on stage. 128 NW Eleventh Ave, Portland, 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
