Thursday, March 1
At First Thursday, be sure to visit Albina Community Bank for a meet-and-greet with local artists and authors celebrating Women’s History Month. Meet ATS friend and artist Addie Boswell, artist Sine Morse, and authors Ruth Feldman, Carmen Bernier-Grand, Pamela Smith Hill, Barbara Kerley, Michelle McCann, and Elizabeth Rusch. 430 NW 10th Ave, Portland, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Friday, March 2
Portland Children’s Museum: It’s the first Friday of the month, which means admission is free from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
Camas First Friday: This month’s theme is “Lucky Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt and Go Green.” Find leprechauns at participating businesses to win prizes. Downtown Camas, 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
“Portlandia”: Watch the latest episode at Mission Theater (1624 NW Glisan, Portland). 5:30 pm doors; 7:00 pm show. Minors admitted with parent or guardian. Encore showing at 10:00 pm for ages 21+.
Shoebox Letters will perform at Music Millennium (3158 E. Burnside St, Portland) at 6:00 pm.
First Friday Art Walk in SE Portland: The galleries open from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Mississippi Pizza hosts performances by Jenny Sizzler (6:00 pm) and Kinder Bison (9:00 pm).
Author Tobias S. Buckell will present his new science fiction novel, “Arctic Rising,” at 7:00 pm at Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing (3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd, Beaverton).
The Alphabeticians (Kids Music): This rock duo sings about dads, monsters, numbers, the alphabet (of course), and more. Hillsboro Main Library (2850 NE Brookwood Parkway, Hillsboro), 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Author Blake Nelson (“Paranoid Park,” “Girl”) will present his latest book “Dream School” at Powell’s City of Books on Burnside, 7:30 pm.
Cascade Festival of African Films runs through March 3.
Saturday, March 3
SE Area ARTWalk: Take a self-guided tour of artists’ studios, home workspaces, galleries, host homes, and businesses within the “walkable/bikeable/busable” boundaries of SE 9th to SE 41st & SE Hawthorne to SE Powell Blvd. Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Healthy Meals & Snacks: Learn to prepare simple, affordable, and healthy food for yourself and the entire family. Bring your kids, ages 7 to 13, for a fun and interactive workshop. New Columbia Community Center (4625 N. Trenton, Portland), 10:00 am to 11:30 am.
Mundo de las Mujeres: This event includes a performance of “Mensaje de Papa,” a short play in Spanish; a panel conversation about the challenges faced by local Latinas in combating diabetes; and a bilingual resource fair with representatives from area social service organizations. Miracle Theatre (525 SE Stark, Portland), 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm (performance at 2:00 pm).
Lindy Exchange Music and Dance: Listen and dance to jazz and pop of the 1920s and ’30s performed by the Midnight Serenaders. Director Park (815 SW Park Ave, Portland), 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
“The Lorax Pop-Up”: Master paper engineer David A. Carter presents his elaborate pop-up book version of Seuss’s “The Lorax.” Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing (3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd, Beaverton), 2:00 pm.
Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising will perform original roots bluegrass music at Ledding Library (10660 SE 21st Ave, Milwaukie), 2:00 pm.
The Horde and the Harem will perform at Music Millennium (3158 E. Burnside St, Portland) at 3:00 pm.
The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival: The Newbery Medal is the most prestigious award in children’s literature. Authors James Kennedy and Laini Taylor present a collection of videos that compress the story of a Newbery award-winning book into 90 seconds or less. Central Library (801 SW 10th Ave, Portland), 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
DIY Terrariums: Build your own terrarium and learn how to take care of it. Each participant will have their own terrarium to take home after class. Kenton Library (8226 N. Denver Ave, Portland), 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Mississippi Pizza hosts Shoehorn (kids music) at 4:00 pm; Annemarie Russell at 6:00 pm; and This Fair City, The Rob Whitfield Project, and iL Marzo at 9:00 pm.
Owl Fest: Enjoy activities for the entire family including owl pellet dissection, snacks by Clif Bar, owl crafts, and up-close encounters with Audubon Education Owls Hazel and Julio. Tryon Creek State Natural Area, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Archeology and The Dimes will perform at the Crystal Hotel & Ballroom, Al’s Den (1332 W. Burnside, Portland) at 7:00 pm. Ages 21 and over.
Dan Haley (“Mr Casual”) will perform at Edgefield Winery (2126 SW Halsey St, Troutdale) at 7:00 pm. Ages 21 and over.

Sunday, March 4

Children’s musician Charlie Hope will share hand-clapping original songs. Her latest album was named a 2011 Top Ten pick by Cool Mom Picks. Tigard Public Library (13500 SW Hall Blvd, Tigard), 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
“Yours for Liberty: Abigail Scott Duniway”: Jean Ward and Elaine Maveety will introduce Duniway through a visual presentation followed by a lively exchange of her women’s rights and woman suffrage writings. Central Library (801 SW 10th Ave, Portland), 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
Blues for MS II Benefit Concert: This is a fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland and features Randy Oxford Band, Duffy Bishop Band, Robbie Laws Band, and more. Admission is free, but attendees will have plenty of opportunity to donate. Roseland Theater (8 NW 6th Ave, Portland), 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Y La Bamba will perform at Music Millennium (3158 E. Burnside St, Portland) at 3:00 pm.
Mystery Author Larry Karp will talk about his latest book “A Perilous Conception” at Murder By the Book (3210 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland), 4:00 pm.
