Thursday, March 1

At First Thursday, be sure to visit Albina Community Bank for a meet-and-greet with local artists and authors celebrating Women’s History Month. Friday, March 2

Portland Children’s Museum: It’s the first Friday of the month, which means admission is free from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.

Camas First Friday: This month’s theme is “Lucky Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt and Go Green.” Find leprechauns at participating businesses to win prizes. Downtown Camas, 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

“Portlandia”: Watch the latest episode at Mission Theater (1624 NW Glisan, Portland). 5:30 pm doors; 7:00 pm show. Minors admitted with parent or guardian. Encore showing at 10:00 pm for ages 21+.

Shoebox Letters will perform at Music Millennium (3158 E. Burnside St, Portland) at 6:00 pm.

First Friday Art Walk in SE Portland: The galleries open from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Mississippi Pizza hosts performances by Jenny Sizzler (6:00 pm) and Kinder Bison (9:00 pm).

Author Tobias S. Buckell will present his new science fiction novel, “Arctic Rising,” at 7:00 pm at Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing (3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd, Beaverton).

The Alphabeticians (Kids Music): This rock duo sings about dads, monsters, numbers, the alphabet (of course), and more. Hillsboro Main Library (2850 NE Brookwood Parkway, Hillsboro), 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Author Blake Nelson (“Paranoid Park,” “Girl”) will present his latest book “Dream School” at Powell’s City of Books on Burnside, 7:30 pm.

Saturday, March 3

SE Area ARTWalk: Take a self-guided tour of artists’ studios, home workspaces, galleries, host homes, and businesses within the “walkable/bikeable/busable” boundaries of SE 9th to SE 41st & SE Hawthorne to SE Powell Blvd. Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Healthy Meals & Snacks: Learn to prepare simple, affordable, and healthy food for yourself and the entire family. Bring your kids, ages 7 to 13, for a fun and interactive workshop. New Columbia Community Center (4625 N. Trenton, Portland), 10:00 am to 11:30 am.

Mundo de las Mujeres: This event includes a performance of “Mensaje de Papa,” a short play in Spanish; a panel conversation about the challenges faced by local Latinas in combating diabetes; and a bilingual resource fair with representatives from area social service organizations. Miracle Theatre (525 SE Stark, Portland), 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm (performance at 2:00 pm).

Lindy Exchange Music and Dance: Listen and dance to jazz and pop of the 1920s and ’30s performed by the Midnight Serenaders. Director Park (815 SW Park Ave, Portland), 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm.

“The Lorax Pop-Up”: Master paper engineer David A. Carter presents his elaborate pop-up book version of Seuss’s “The Lorax.” Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing (3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd, Beaverton), 2:00 pm.

Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising will perform original roots bluegrass music at Ledding Library (10660 SE 21st Ave, Milwaukie), 2:00 pm.

The Horde and the Harem will perform at Music Millennium (3158 E. Burnside St, Portland) at 3:00 pm.

The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival: The Newbery Medal is the most prestigious award in children’s literature. Authors James Kennedy and Laini Taylor present a collection of videos that compress the story of a Newbery award-winning book into 90 seconds or less. Central Library (801 SW 10th Ave, Portland), 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

DIY Terrariums: Build your own terrarium and learn how to take care of it. Each participant will have their own terrarium to take home after class. Kenton Library (8226 N. Denver Ave, Portland), 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Mississippi Pizza hosts Shoehorn (kids music) at 4:00 pm; Annemarie Russell at 6:00 pm; and This Fair City, The Rob Whitfield Project, and iL Marzo at 9:00 pm.

Owl Fest: Enjoy activities for the entire family including owl pellet dissection, snacks by Clif Bar, owl crafts, and up-close encounters with Audubon Education Owls Hazel and Julio. Tryon Creek State Natural Area, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Archeology and The Dimes will perform at the Crystal Hotel & Ballroom, Al’s Den (1332 W. Burnside, Portland) at 7:00 pm. Ages 21 and over.

Dan Haley (“Mr Casual”) will perform at Edgefield Winery (2126 SW Halsey St, Troutdale) at 7:00 pm. Ages 21 and over.

Sunday, March 4

“Yours for Liberty: Abigail Scott Duniway”: Jean Ward and Elaine Maveety will introduce Duniway through a visual presentation followed by a lively exchange of her women’s rights and woman suffrage writings. Central Library (801 SW 10th Ave, Portland), 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.

Blues for MS II Benefit Concert: This is a fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland and features Randy Oxford Band, Duffy Bishop Band, Robbie Laws Band, and more. Admission is free, but attendees will have plenty of opportunity to donate. Roseland Theater (8 NW 6th Ave, Portland), 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Y La Bamba will perform at Music Millennium (3158 E. Burnside St, Portland) at 3:00 pm.

Mystery Author Larry Karp will talk about his latest book “A Perilous Conception” at Murder By the Book (3210 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland), 4:00 pm.

Shark Days: Watch the half-hour children’s film “The Shark Riddle,” named Best Children’s Program of the Year at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival. Rockwood Library (17917 SE Stark St, Portland), 12:30 pm.

String Quartet No. 2 by Morton Feldman: Third Angle Ensemble will perform this four-hour piece. Come and go as you please, or stay for the whole thing. Ellyn Bye Studio Theater at Portland Center Stage (128 NW Eleventh Ave, Portland), 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Portland Art Museum Free Day: It’s the fourth Friday of the month, which means admission is free from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

“Portlandia” + “Actioke”: Doors open at 5:30 pm. Actioke begins 6:00 pm. The latest episode of “Portlandia” begins at 7:00 pm. Mission Theater (1624 NW Glisan, Portland).

Saturday, February 25

Fix-It Fair: Free minor bike tune-ups and flat tire repair for students and families. Free workshops about saving money, home improvement, and more. Free childcare and lunch. Jefferson High School (5210 N. Kerby Ave, Portland), 8:30 am to 2:00 pm.

Boogie Woogie Concert for Tots: Nana Banana, aka Cinda Tilgner, will entertain kids with songs and music on the guitar, ukulele and harmonica. Rockwood Library (17917 SE Stark St, Portland), 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm.

William O. Crane’s Seven Concerts: Crane — along with other local musicians, dancers, and others — will perform seven free concerts over seven days. The first concert is today at 6:00 pm at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church (1535 NE 17th Ave, Portland). The series continues through March 2 at various locations.

Screening of “Inlaws & Outlaws”: Hosted by The Living Room, a safe haven for GLBTQQ youth in Clackamas County. The Ainsworth House (19130 Lot Whitcomb Dr, Oregon City), 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

Sunday, February 26

“Girlchild” Release Party: Celebrate the release of Tupelo Hassman’s novel, “Girlchild,” with an evening of readings and music. Readers include Tupelo Hassman, Matthew Stadler, Sara Jaffe, Tye Pemberton, and Zulema Renee Summerfield. Palace of Industry (5426 N. Gay Ave, Portland), 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

Asteroids Galaxy Tour will perform at 7:30 pm at Music Millennium.

Lake Oswego Bike Ride (registration required): Join Mayor Hoffman for a bicycle ride inspired by the book “Mink River.” You’ll visit some of the city’s public works sites, ride along the river, wind through Sister of the Holy Names, and more. 9:45 am. Registration required.

Guided Nature Walk at Tryon Creek Park: Today’s theme is The Art of Owling. 10:00 am.

Free Day at the Oregon Historical Society: Everyone is invited to enjoy free admission at the February Family Day celebrating Latino culture. 1200 SW Park Ave, Portland. 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with activities from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Free Family Day at the Oregon Maritime Museum: Families of up to 2 adults and 2 children under the age of 14 enjoy free admission to the main exhibit space. SW Naito Parkway at Pine St, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Zwickelmania Oregon Brewery Tour: Dozens of breweries in Portland and more across the state will offer free tours and samples. Check the website for participating breweries. 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Learn to Silkscreen: Bring a t-shirt or apron to learn how to silkscreen while chatting with the wife of the author of “Mink River.” Ages 4 to adult. Lake Oswego Library (706 Fourth St, Lake Oswego), 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

The 2012 Yard, Garden and Patio Show is this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Oregon Convention Center. Admission is $12 at the door for ages 13 and older. Kids 12 and younger get in free.

Free Days at the Oregon Historical Society, February 14 and 18

Oregon Historical Society (OHS) is offering two free days this week.

Tuesday, February 14
Celebrate Oregon statehood with free admission all day and free birthday cake at noon with past Governors Victor Atiyeh and Barbara Roberts.

Saturday, February 18
Admission is free for everyone all day at this month’s Family Day focused on Latino culture. OHS will open “Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program, 1942–1964,” a bilingual exhibit created by the Smithsonian. Families will enjoy special activities from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, including a pinata and cupcakes at noon.
