FYI: Wells Fargo Impostor Scam

September 13th, 2011

Just want to make sure you know about the Wells Fargo Impostor Scam. If you are a Wells Fargo customer, you might receive a phone call or text message (or both, in my husband’s case) claiming that your account has been deactivated. This communication is not from Wells Fargo; it’s a scam.

Hang up the phone immediately. Do not respond to the text. Never give out your account information. Ever. Please.

You can read more about the scam here.

I just wanted to add that you don’t have to be a Wells Fargo customer for this to happen. I have been getting texts and calls and I haven’t ever done business with Wells Fargo. I guess that made it easier for me to spot as a scam, but still …

I got one too, but I’m never been a Wells Fargo customer.

Isn’t this alarming? I’ve read a similar case at http://www.callercenter.com/866-252-2105.html and I say it’s only up to us to avoid getting scammed… we have no way of knowing if the person calling is real or a fake. So it’s best if we are aware… If ever I’d receive a call about this, I’d hung up the phone right away. My bank told me not to give out any information through the phone since they never do that for security reasons.

I got a blocked call last night and when I answered it said “Your wells fargo bank account has been deactivated. To re-acctivate please press 1 now” I do not have a wells fargo bank account so I knew this wasn’t right. When i pressed 0 to talk to an operator it was disconnected. I spoke to a wells fargo rep and she said there have been several calls made and to just hang up and contact the police to stop this fraud issue.

i admire posts like this because they’re taking time to share a very valuable information.. these scams are happening everywhere and if we don’t keep a watchful eye, they’re likely to fool lot.

i totally agree with simple_mari… never ever give out any information unless you initiated the call and know the person on the other end. and i did check http://www.callercenter.com. the place is practically littered with scam tactics exposed!
