Friday, February 18

Boomshakalaka: A Show Celebrating the Portland Trailblazers: Thirty artists pay homage to the home team with wood, fabric, sound, video, cardboard, paper, and more. Land Gallery, 7:00 pm.

Y La Bamba will perform at Edgefield’s Blackberry Hall at 7:00 pm.

“Portlandia”: Mission Theater will host the latest episode and a live performance by Morgan Grace. Doors open at 8:30 pm; airtime is 11:00 pm. Ages 21+.

Cascade Festival of African Films: The festival runs every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through March 5. Seats available on a first come, first served basis.

Saturday, February 19

Zwickelmania: This free statewide event offers visitors a chance to tour Oregon breweries, meet the brewers, and sample their favorite beers. 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Night of a Thousand Stars: A Portrait of Life in Iraq: Photojournalist Joel Preston Smith traveled in central and northern Iraq for four months in 2003, living with Iraqis and Kurds and patrolling with U.S. soldiers. Smith will lead audiences in a conversation about the ethics of war, media bias, and American perceptions of Iraqis and Middle Easterners. Kenton Library, 2:00 pm.

Sunday, February 20

“Osama bin Laden”: In his book, Michael Scheuer, the first head of the CIA’s bin Laden Unit, provides a closely reasoned portrait of this notorious figure. Powell’s City of Books on Burnside, 7:30 pm.

Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band will perform at Lakeridge High School Auditorium, 7:30 pm.

Taekwondo Demonstration: Members of the U.S. West Coast Taekwondo Association will demonstrate how this martial art develops balance, flexibility, stamina, focus and confidence. They’ll also get the audience up and moving, so wear comfy clothes. Tigard Library, 1:30 pm.
