Saturday, February 12

Family Day at Washington County Museum: This month’s theme is Valentine’s Day: Hearts and more hearts, paper bag puppets, and bon bon boxes.

Once Upon a Time: A Gathering of Princesses and Knights: Families are invited to dress in their royal finery and enjoy crafts, games, and music by Kinderqueen. Green Frog Toys, 10:00 am to noon.

Second Saturday at Vancouver Water Resources Education Center: This month’s family-friendly event features activities to bring out the scientist in you. 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Cascade Festival of African Films: The festival runs every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through March 5. Seats available on a first come, first served basis.

Sunday, February 13

Free Day at Oregon Historical Society: Admission is free to celebrate Oregon’s 152nd birthday. Free cake and froyo too. Noon to 5:00 pm

A Taste of Bellydance: Carol Vance, Director of GypsyHeart and member of Gypsy Caravan Dance Company, will teach you the basics of tribal belly dancing. Central Library, 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.

African American Read-In: Local celebrities, community leaders, and students will read from works by their favorite African American writers. Concordia University, Hagen Campus Center, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

“Print Workshop: Hand-Printing Techniques and Truly Original Projects”: Christine Schmidt will talk about her book, which shows how to print everything, from T-shirts to playing cards, in your home. Powell’s City of Books on Burnside, 4:00 pm.

    Sat., Feb. 12, 7-10 p.m.
    FREE!
    Artclash Collective has organized their second annual Fun-A-Day community art project wherein participants choose a specific “art project” (sculpture, drawing, writing…walking…soup??) to repeat every day in January, and the 31 resulting pieces from each artist are displayed together at a reception on Feb. 12. Fun!
