Boomshakalaka: A Show Celebrating the Portland Trailblazers: Thirty artists pay homage to the home team with wood, fabric, sound, video, cardboard, paper, and more. Land Gallery, 7:00 pm.

Y La Bamba will perform at Edgefield’s Blackberry Hall at 7:00 pm.

“Portlandia”: Mission Theater will host the latest episode and a live performance by Morgan Grace. Doors open at 8:30 pm; airtime is 11:00 pm. Ages 21+.

Cascade Festival of African Films: The festival runs every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through March 5. Seats available on a first come, first served basis.

Saturday, February 19

Zwickelmania: This free statewide event offers visitors a chance to tour Oregon breweries, meet the brewers, and sample their favorite beers. 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Night of a Thousand Stars: A Portrait of Life in Iraq: Photojournalist Joel Preston Smith traveled in central and northern Iraq for four months in 2003, living with Iraqis and Kurds and patrolling with U.S. soldiers. Smith will lead audiences in a conversation about the ethics of war, media bias, and American perceptions of Iraqis and Middle Easterners. Kenton Library, 2:00 pm.

Cascade Festival of African Films: The festival runs every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through March 5. Seats available on a first come, first served basis.

Sunday, February 20

“Osama bin Laden”: In his book, Michael Scheuer, the first head of the CIA’s bin Laden Unit, provides a closely reasoned portrait of this notorious figure. Powell’s City of Books on Burnside, 7:30 pm.

Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band will perform at Lakeridge High School Auditorium, 7:30 pm.

Taekwondo Demonstration: Members of the U.S. West Coast Taekwondo Association will demonstrate how this martial art develops balance, flexibility, stamina, focus and confidence. They’ll also get the audience up and moving, so wear comfy clothes. Tigard Library, 1:30 pm.

Family Day at Washington County Museum: This month’s theme is Valentine’s Day: Hearts and more hearts, paper bag puppets, and bon bon boxes.

Once Upon a Time: A Gathering of Princesses and Knights: Families are invited to dress in their royal finery and enjoy crafts, games, and music by Kinderqueen. Green Frog Toys, 10:00 am to noon.

Second Saturday at Vancouver Water Resources Education Center: This month’s family-friendly event features activities to bring out the scientist in you. 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Free Day at Oregon Historical Society: Admission is free to celebrate Oregon’s 152nd birthday. Free cake and froyo too. Noon to 5:00 pm

A Taste of Bellydance: Carol Vance, Director of GypsyHeart and member of Gypsy Caravan Dance Company, will teach you the basics of tribal belly dancing. Central Library, 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.

African American Read-In: Local celebrities, community leaders, and students will read from works by their favorite African American writers. Concordia University, Hagen Campus Center, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

“Print Workshop: Hand-Printing Techniques and Truly Original Projects”: Christine Schmidt will talk about her book, which shows how to print everything, from T-shirts to playing cards, in your home. Powell’s City of Books on Burnside, 4:00 pm.

Celebrate Africa: Celebrate Lake Oswego Read’s 2011 novel, “Cutting for Stone,” with a special festival of African music, cuisine and authentic African wares. West End Building, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Ethnic Heritage Ensemble with David Ornette Cherry: For more than 30 years, the ensemble has carried on the African American tradition of percussive jazz from a distinctly Midwest-Chicago perspective. Reed College, Eliot Hall Chapel, 7:30 pm.

Patton Oswalt Book Signing: Comedian Oswalt will sign his book “Zombie Spaceship Wasteland” at Powell’s City of Books on Burnside, 1:00 pm.

Coffee Brewing Class and Tasting: Folks at Public Domain Coffee will demonstrate brewing techniques they use and teach you how to achieve the same quality at home (11:00 am). Come by again at 2:00 pm to sample a variety of coffees.
