Open House at the Oregon Historical Society: Enjoy a week of free admission and activities. Friday, October 1, through Friday, October 8, during regular hours.
Greek Festival: Food, music, dance, and more. Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 10:00 am to 10:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, noon to 8:00 pm on Sunday.
Friday, October 1
Free night at the Children’s Museum: Admission is free from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Wells Fargo Fan Fest: Celebrate the start of the Blazers pre-season with an intra-squad scrimmage, Q&A, and more. Free tickets are available at Wells Fargo locations. Fans will also be admitted if they show any Wells Fargo check/credit card at Rose Garden entrances. 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
First Friday Art Walk: Go gallery hopping on the East side. And check out PORT’s First Friday picks.
More art: Galleries in Sellwood will also host openings.
First Friday in Milwaukie: Live music, art exhibits and demonstrations, and more. 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Old Apple Tree Festival: Tours of Fort Vancouver, activities for children, live music, and more to celebrate the oldest living apple tree in the Northwest, planted in 1826. Old Apple Tree Park, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Gresham Community BBQ and Celebration: Live music, games, community exhibits, $1 dogs and burgers, and more. Cedarville Park, 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.
“Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”: Come dressed as your favorite Wonka character or in your favorite 1970s costume and watch the original film. Free snacks and door prizes. West Slope Library, 1:00 pm.
Y La Bamba will perform at Music Millennium at 2:00 pm.

Hidden Portland: Old Town/Chinatown Walking Tour & Reading: Come along on a walking tour and hear Carye Bye read from her book about the nooks and crannies, collections and curiosities in the Old Town/Chinatown area. Tour starts at Union Station, 2:00 pm.
Young Audiences Artist Showcase: Check out Young Audiences’ offerings for schools: classical Indian dance, storytelling, cello performances, songwriting, circus arts, and more. Buckman School, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Smithsonian Museum Day: Print a free admission ticket to one of these museums: Architectural Heritage Center, Museum of Contemporary Craft, Oregon History Museum, Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center, Portland Art Museum, Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals, Washington County Museum, or World Forestry Center Discovery Museum.
Under the Autumn Moon Festival: Enjoy free admission and special activities at the Lan Su Chinese Garden. Then head out to NW Davis Street for an outdoor music festival. 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Polish Festival: Dance performances, live music, polka contest, Polish food, and more. 3900 N. Interstate Ave, Saturday from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm, Sunday from noon to 6:00 pm.

Firefly Community Lantern Walk: Bring a lantern or lights to carry on a 2.5-mile walk that celebrates the beginning of fall. 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Harvest Moon Festival: Moon cakes, lanterns, face-painting, and bookmark making. Gregory Heights Library, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Festival Japan: Music, dance, crafts, food, and more. Uwajimaya in Beaverton, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Gresham Teddy Bear Parade and Transportation Safety Fair: Take the kids to downtown Gresham for a bear-themed parade starting at 10:00 am. Then head to the fair for music, $5 bike helmets, carnival games, and more from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Harvest Fun Day: Live music, craft and farming booths, competitive eating contests, and more. 78th St. Heritage Farm in Hazel Dell, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Jam-O-Rama 2010: Travel back in time with an all-day music festival featuring Northwest bands from the ’60s and ’70s. White Eagle Saloon, starting at 1:00 pm. All ages until 8:00 pm.
Johnson Creek Discovery Saturdays: Hands-on activities for families with children younger than 10. Reed College, 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
Sunday, September 26
Northwest Sunday Parkways: This edition of Sunday Parkways features a 4.5-mile, car-free route through NW Portland and a bit of SW too. Activities, food, and entertainment at Couch and Wallace Parks and along the route. 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Aquifer Adventure: Take a canoe ride on the slough with a pirate guide, make edible aquifers, play interactive groundwater games, and listen to live music. Airport Way and NE 166th, noon to 4:00 pm.
Mid-Autumn Moon Festival: A variety of Asian musicians, dancers, games, and cultural exhibits. Eastport Plaza, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Children’s Book Fair: Get free books and enjoy entertainment and activities including taiko drumming, book making, button making, and art tables. North Portland Library, 11:00 am–2:00 pm.
Dance with the Rockettes: Macy’s Washington Square invites kids and shoppers to dance with the Rockettes at 2:00 pm. Each young dancer who joins in the fun will receive an “Honorary Rockette” certificate.
Beaverton Celebration Parade and Old Town Festival: The parade will start at 10:00 am. After the parade, enjoy free family fun until 4:00 pm at Broadway and Hall Street.
Family Clothing Swap: Round up unwanted clean, good-condition clothing, accessories, and other wearables you or your kids don’t use or love anymore and bring them to swap. Midland Library, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Johnson Creek Discovery Saturdays: Hands-on activities for families with children younger than 10. This week’s activity is a nature-themed scavenger hunt. Leach Botanical Garden, 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
Tigard Fun Run/Walk and Pet Parade: The free race begins at City Hall at 9:00 am. Pet parade and competition begin at 11:00 am at Summerlake Dog Park.
Sturgeon Festival: This family event celebrates the ecosystems of the Columbia River with a reptile show, educational activities, and more. Vancouver Water Center, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Life at Fort Vancouver: Experience one of the largest reenactments at Fort Vancouver, which takes visitors back in time to September 13, 1846, when the fort was buzzing with activity. 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Also enjoy free exhibits outside Pearson Air Museum starting at 4:00 pm.
Sunday, September 19
Portland Opera Preview: Lecture/concert covers historical background, composer information and musical selections from “Pagliacci and Carmina Burana.” Central Library, 2:00 pm.
Healthy Kids’ Fair: Bike helmets for $5, car safety clinic, low-cost immunizations, teddy bear clinic, height and weight checks, and more. Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Beaverton Library Birthday Celebration: The library will celebrate its 10th birthday with 10 days of special events starting September 10.
Friday, September 10
Fashion’s Night Out: Fashion shows at Director Park and special events at 11 other locations in downtown Portland, including a fashion presentation by “Project Runway” winner Seth Aaron Henderson at Macy’s. 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Multnomah Outdoor Cinema: Free movie, music, and popcorn at Multnomah Arts Center. Live music starts at 6:30 pm. “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” starts at dusk.
Saturday, September 11
Widmer Brothers Oktoberfest: The largest Oktoberfest in Portland. Live music, beer, and food. Widmer Brothers Brewing, starts at 3:00 pm.
West Linn Arts Festival: Artwork by 100 artists, live music, kids activities, and more. Riverfront of Willamette Park in West Linn, Saturday (10:00 am to 6:00 pm) and Sunday (10:00 am to 5:00 pm).
Johnson Creek Discovery Saturdays: Hands-on activities for families with children younger than 10. Gresham Main City Park, 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
Market Day Poetry Series: Portland poets John Sibley Williams, A. Molotkov, and Shawn Austin will read and discuss poetry in front of St. Johns Booksellers from 10:00 am to noon.
Tigard Family Fest: Fireworks, live music, and a Texas BBQ. Festivities start at 4:30 pm at Cook Park.
Sunday, September 12
Fall.ART.Live: A daylong festival featuring performances from local arts organizations including Oregon Ballet Theatre, The Portland Opera, Miracle Theatre Group, and more. Workshops for kids and adults. Director Park (or Lincoln Hall in case of rain), 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Belmont Area Street Fair: Four music stages, a food festival, children’s fun center, alternative transportation expo, craft booths, and more. SE Belmont from 34th to 37th will be closed to cars. 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
West Linn Arts Festival: Artwork by 100 artists, live music, kids activities, and more. Riverfront of Willamette Park in West Linn, Saturday (10:00 am to 6:00 pm) and Sunday (10:00 am to 5:00 pm).
Writers Reflect on 9/11: Local authors Tom Spanbauer, Tami Lynn Kent, Jessica Maxwell, Sara Guest, and Jennifer Lauck will reflect on the tragedy and what people have done to recover. Powell’s Books on Hawthorne, 4:00 pm.

On September 21, 2010, the Oregon Zoo will offer free admission to anyone aged 65 or over and a companion from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
This special event is called Senior Safari and will include activities and entertainment planned with those 65 and over in mind.
