Portland Art Museum Free Night: Visit the museum for free and enjoy live music in the museum’s outdoor sculpture court. 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Columbia Gorge International Film Festival: More than 200 films for your viewing pleasure at the Vancouver Convention Center.

Saturday, August 21

RiverFest River Fair: Learn all about the Willamette River: its history, geological properties, recreational opportunities, and more. Admission to the Oregon Maritime Museum will also be free. Waterfront Park, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Alberta Street Fair: Three stages of music, a kids area, parade, and more. 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. NE Alberta Street will be closed to cars between NE 10th and 30th Avenues.

Multnomah Days: Parade, kids activities (kids zone is four times bigger than last year’s), live music, and vendors. Multnomah Village, 8:30 am to 10:00 pm.

Russian-American Cultural Festival “Soberiha”: Live Russian and American folk music, kids activities, and craft and food vendors. Esther Short Park in Vancouver, 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

BMX Jam: DJ and music, food, prizes and giveaways. Events will include High Air, Best Trick, and a Park Jam. Glenhaven Skatepark, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Parks Picnic on the Plaza in Gresham: This event includes music, games, and prizes. Bring a picnic, take part in the fun, and learn more about the future of Gresham parks. Center for the Arts Plaza, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Guided bike ride in Gresham: At 10:00 am, meet at Main City Park in the parking lot next to Springwater Trail to take a leisurely bike ride with members of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance.

Knit-Out and Crochet 2010 at the Tigard Library: Demonstrations, free instruction, displays of crocheted and knitted items, and door prizes to participants who drop by to knit or crochet. 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Sunday, August 22

Collector Car Show: Classic cars, rods, sport cars, and special interest cars. George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Classic Boat Show: This in-the-water show will be held at the Lake Oswego Corporation (LOC) Docks from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Shakespeare in the Parks: The Portland Actors Ensemble will perform “The Comedy of Errors” at Lynchwood Park at 3:00 pm.

Beaverton Modular Railroad Club: The club will have models set up for viewing and be available to answer questions. Beaverton City Library, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Free Science Days at OMSI: Enjoy free general admission to OMSI all weekend. Hours will be extended from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Regular admission prices apply to the OMNIMAX Theater, planetarium, and submarine.

Friday, August 13

Portland Twilight Criterium: Head to the North Park Blocks for professional bicycle racing, a cycling and fitness expo, handmade bike show, and more. Event begins at 4:00 pm; racing begins at 6:30 pm.

Tualatin Crawfish Festival: Admission is free on Friday. Enjoy live music (including a battle of the bands), boat rides, and crawfish, of course. Tualatin Commons starting at 5:00 pm.

Saturday, August 14

Central Library Block Party: Entertainment, craft projects, bug petting, and more. Noon to 3:00 pm.

Tour de Fat: This celebration of beer and bikes features a bike parade, slow bike ride, entertainment, and more. Waterfront Park, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

PDX Adult Soapbox Derby: Wacky cars and fierce competition. 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Mt. Tabor Park.

Music Millennium Customer Appreciation BBQ: A different band will perform each hour from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Rockin’ Round the Block Show & Shine Car Show: Hot rods, classic cars, kids activities, and more. Downtown Gresham, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Fire in the Park: Live music, kids activities, fire fighter competition, and more. Esther Short Park in Vancouver, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Arts Festival in the Forest: View the creative works of professional artists and watch a variety of entertaining performers, including the acrobatic AWOL tree dancers. Mary S. Young Park in West Linn, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Sunday, August 15

Southeast Sunday Parkways: Enjoy entertainment and activities along a 6-mile, car-free route connecting Laurelhurst, Colonel Summers and Sunnyside Parks, plus the Hawthorne Street Fair. 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Hawthorne Street Fair: Enjoy entertainment, kids activities, freebies, and much more all along Hawthorne Street. 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

India Festival: Experience the tastes, sounds, and sights of India from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm at Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Arts Festival in the Forest: View the creative works of professional artists and watch a variety of entertaining performers, including the acrobatic AWOL tree dancers. Mary S. Young Park in West Linn, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Free haircut for those with long hair: If you have a ponytail measuring 8 inches or more, head to Bonnet for a free haircut and hat. Your hair will be made into a wig and donated to the American Cancer Society. Call or email Bonnet to let them know that you are planning to attend. 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”: Willamette Shakespeare will perform this play at Reed College Cerf Amphitheatre. Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm, and Sunday at 6:00 pm. Pre-show events begin one hour before curtain.

Shakespeare in the Park: The Portland Actors Ensemble will perform “The Comedy of Errors” at Director Park on Friday at 7:30 pm. Performances on Saturday and Sunday are at 3:00 pm at Washington Park.

Saturday, August 7

Obonfest: Obon is an annual Japanese festival commemorating one’s ancestors. The main highlight is the traditional dancing, and everyone is invited to join in. Oregon Buddhist Temple, 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Fremont Festival: Live music, street performers, art and craft booths, cake walk, parade for kids and pets, kids activities, and more. 41st to 50th Avenues on NE Fremont, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

NW Book Festival: Meet more than 50 authors and chat with folks from publishing companies and bookstores. Pioneer Courthouse Square, 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Ecopalooza: Bands and DJs will perform to raise environmental awareness and promote alternative energy sources. Fernhill Park, 11:00 am to 8:30 pm.

Sew-a-Con: The Greater Portland Area Costumer’s Guild is hosting an open sewing event and workshops. Workshops are wig dressing, making a Barbie costume, and vegan cooking. St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Passport to Sellwood Westmoreland: Visit participating businesses from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and get a chance to win prizes. The Boys & Girls Club will host a community health fair, which includes free health screenings and $5 bike helmets, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Ten Toe Express Guided Walk: Hike around Powell Butte’s nature trails through forested areas and open meadows. Meet at Powell Butte parking lot at 9:00 am.

Happy Valley Art Walk: Art, live music, and face painting and balloon art for the kids. Happy Valley Town Center, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

“Il Trovatore”: Portland SummerFest presents Opera in the Park with a performance of “Il Trovatore” by Giuseppe Verdi. Concordia University Campus Green Commons, 4:00 pm.

“Deepsy Diver” puppet show: The Mudeye Puppet Company presents an all new show for 2010 featuring the adventures of underwater heroine, Deepsy Diver. Holgate Library, 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm.

Make a Splash with Bend Magic’s Bill Mitchell: Exciting, engaging, fast-paced and interactive, this show is the perfect blend of comedy, magic and, of course, books. Troutdale Library, 2:30 pm to 3:15 pm.

“We’re Getting On”: Author James Kaelan’s book explores youth, dissolution, and what happens when you try to live completely off the grid. Powell’s City of Books on Burnside, 4:00 pm.

OMSI: Free admission from August 12–15, 2010, plus membership discount

The Fred Meyer Fund is proud to present FREE SCIENCE DAYS at OMSI. Enjoy free general admission to OMSI and explore over 200 interactive exhibits August 12-15, 2010. OMSI hours will be extended from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Regular admission prices apply to the OMNIMAX Theater, planetarium, and submarine.
