Friday, July 9
Shakespeare in the Park: The Portland Actors Ensemble will perform “Pericles, Prince of Tyre” on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays through mid-July. Tonight, they will perform at 7:30 pm at Mt. Tabor Park summit.
Art opening: The 100th Monkey Studio will host an art opening for the Maps show. Live music by Sean O’G of Otis Heat and refreshments. 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

- Horns-A-Plenty, Pioneer Courthouse Square, 7:00 pm.
- American Aquarium, Music Millennium, 6:00 pm.
- Stephanie Schneiderman Band, Fernhill Park, 6:30 pm.

- “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel,” Kenilworth Park. Pre-movie entertainment begins at 6:30 pm. Movie begins at dark.
- “Tooth Fairy,” Esther Short Park, dusk (approximately 9:00 pm).
- “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” Happy Valley Park, dusk (between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm).
Saturday, July 10
Bastille Festival in the Pearl: Waiters race, entertainment, children’s area, and other French goodness. Jamison Square Park, 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Mississippi Ave Street Fair: Parade at noon, entertainment on four stages, kids activities, and more. 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.
NW 23rd Avenue Street A-Fair: Art Alexakis as master of ceremonies, chalk art competition, fashion show, karaoke, live music, kids activities, street performers, and more. 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Star Trek in the Park: See a live performance of the classic Star Trek episode “Space Seed.” Saturdays and Sundays through August 1 at Woodlawn Park, 5:00 pm.
A day of live theatre in Tualatin: Enjoy three family-friendly plays at Schiffler Park. ”King Midas” (children’s play in English) at 11:00 am. ”El Rey Midas” (children’s play in Spanish) at 1:00 pm. “Murder at the Orient Express” (all ages) at 6:00 pm.

“Much Adoe About Nothing”: The Ops Fest (Original Practice Shakespeare Festival) will perform this play using the same techniques as they did in Shakespeare’s own time, which means limited rehearsal; an onstage prompter; fast-paced, energetic acting; and lots of audience interaction. Marine Park in Vancouver, 2:00 pm.
Guided walk, Montavilla to Mt Tabor: Climb to the top of Mt Tabor and back. Meet at 9:00 am at the NW corner of SE 80th & Stark.
Ted E. Bear’s Travels: Penny’s Puppet Productions takes you on a musical fun-filled journey. Follow Ted E. Bear as he finds his way back home and meets interesting characters along the way. Rockwood Library, 12:00 pm.
Pet-friendly gardening workshop and adoption event: The workshop covers landscape design tips, including plant selection, pet training, breed consideration, and materials to use. Animals from the Oregon Humane Society will be on-site, ready for adoption. Dennis’ 7 Dees Eastside Garden Center, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Kid-friendly band, The Alphabeticians, will perform at TaborSpace Coffee House at 1:00 pm.
Poetry reading: Rodney Koeneke, Joseph Mains, and Dan Raphael will read from “Peaches and Bats #6.” St. Johns Booksellers, noon.
“Food Lover’s Guide to Portland”: Learn about this book and sample local wine, pastries, chocolates, and farm fresh foods. In Good Taste on NW 11th Ave, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
Movies:
- “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” Lents Park. Pre-movie entertainment begins at 6:30 pm. Movie begins at dark.
- “The Spy Next Door,” Tualatin Commons, starts after sunset.
- “Back to the Future,” Stringfield Park, dusk (between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm).
Sunday, July 11
Soccer City Celebration: Watch the World Cup Final on a huge screen at Pioneer Courthouse Square. The party begins at 10:00 am. The match starts at 11:30 am.
