This week’s summary comes a day early to bring you a few New Year’s Eve freebies.

Thursday, December 31
New Year’s Eve parties:
- Doug Fir: DJ SAFI will be spinning rock and party music all night long in the free heated patio tent.
- Edgefield: Sonny Hess Trio and The Quick & Easy Boys will perform.
- Kennedy School: Freak Mountain Ramblers will perform.
- Kelly’s Olympian: Coco Cobra and the Killers, The Rainy States, Yeltsin, and Secrets In The Salt will perform.
- More New Year’s Eve parties: Check PDX Pipeline for more parties, both free and not.
Free TriMet rides: All TriMet service is free after 8:00 pm on New Year’s Eve.
Almost free chocolate buffet: At each Pix location, a free chocolate buffet awaits 100 people who purchase a bubbly drink. Check the website to find out how you can be one of them.
Friday, January 1
New Year’s Day Bike Ride: Led by the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, this 12-mile bike ride will highlight some of the best new additions to Portland’s bike infrastructure and bike culture, as well as areas for improvement. Please RSVP.
Saturday, January 2
Hayao Miyazaki Film Festival: “My Neighbor Totoro,” “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “Nausicaä of the Valley Wind” will be playing at Tigard Library starting at 11:00 am.
Audubon Christmas Bird Count: Each year, birders all over North and Central America gather to count all the birds in a 15-mile diameter circle on a given day. Join birders of all skill levels this year at Tryon Creek and help in the Portland Count.
For Bank of America customers: You can visit the Portland Art Museum and Pittock Mansion free today and tomorrow.
Portland Makes Music One-Year Anniversary: Typhoon, Y La Bamba, Tango Alpha Tango, Eat Skull, and Zoo Girl will perform at Backspace.
Sunday, January 3
Owling at Tryon Creek Park: You will learn about the species present in this forest, mating and nesting behavior, as well as tips and tricks to successful owling.

Hello, Amy. Please let your readers know about the free community dinner offered every second Saturday of the month at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in SW Portland. We serve a simple meal (soup or pasta, salad, bread, dessert) from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Our next dates are 1/9/10, 2/13/10, 3/13/10. All are welcome. Bring your kids. No strings attached.
