Take the kids to the Portland Children’s Museum.

Go gallery hopping at the Central Eastside Art Walk.

Take a free writing workshop at Ibex Studios: Adventures in Creative Writing at 6:00 pm.

Hear a classical concert at Tigard Library.

Saturday, December 5

Celebrate the season at these community events:

Take a guided nature walk at Tryon Creek State Park.

Bring the family to Northwest Library to hear a variety of holiday music, including olde carols, African American spirituals, bluegrass, and more.

Take a free horse-drawn carriage ride in Sellwood.

Bring your pet to the Hotel Vintage Plaza to enjoy a treat and pose with Santa.

If you’re a Bank of America customer, visit the Portland Art Museum and the Pittock Mansion for free.

Sunday, December 6

Celebrate the season at the Happy Valley Tree Lighting Event.

Take your kids to Holgate Library to enjoy a new musical puppet show from Penny’s Puppet Productions.

Head to Powell’s to meet Lisa Schroeder, owner of Mother’s Bistro and Bar, and hear her talk about her new cookbook.

Take a free horse-drawn carriage ride in Sellwood.

Take a guided bike tour of movie theaters of the past in NE and North Portland.

If you’re a Bank of America customer, visit the Portland Art Museum and the Pittock Mansion for free.

    The French American International School at Miller and Cornell is hosting a Holiday Market Saturday, December 5th from 9 to 4pm. Enjoy french pastries, german sausages, local and french wines, and 50+ local artisans selling their beautiful creations. It’s festive, it’s fun and it’s FREE. Join us!

    The Jobless Speak Out on the “Jobless Recovery”

    A panel of under- and unemployed will speak on how an economic recovery without job creation deepens the impoverishment of workers to resuscitate corporate profits. Discussion will follow on what the growing dispossessed need to do to guarantee everyone the right to a decent-paying job. Sunday, December 13, 3:00pm at the Bread and Roses Center, 819 N. Killingsworth St., Portland (1/2 block west of N. Albina; TriMet bus lines #4 and #72). A $2.00 door donation is requested and a robust multi-cultural meal will be available at 2:00pm for an $8-$10 sliding-scale donation. Childcare and work exchange available upon request.     Anti-police brutality activist, Helen Sherman, will speak on the disproportionate number of youth of color caught up in the juvenile justice system. Meeting held on Thursday, December 10th at 7:00pm at the Bread & Roses Center, 819 N. Killingsworth St., Portland (on Tri-Met lines #4 and #72).
