Local Bookstores in Financial Trouble

Affected by the current economy, two bookstores listed on our Free Events page are facing the possibility of closure. These bookstores are:

In Other Words Women’s Books and Resources (the last nonprofit feminist bookstore in the US)
8 B NE Killingsworth St
Portland, OR 97211

Twenty-Third Avenue Books
1015 NW 23rd Avenue
Portland, OR 97210

All hope is not lost, however. Both stores can still be saved. These stores are not just places to buy books; they’re gathering places that bring authors into our community and host other educational and cultural events year round.
