Sunday, December 7

This Way Home is performing a free house concert at 6:00 p.m.
Limited seating is available. Contact Johnette Orpinela at ojohnette@comcast.net or phone (503) 788-2334 to reserve a seat.

This Way Home is an eclectic 8-member world folk-fusion ensemble. Their music draws on a variety of folk traditions to create its unique sound. The inspiration of composer and musician Shawn Orpinela, whose passion for exploring different folk traditions and playing with rhythm and texture, creates this inspiring and intricately complex music. Their sets feature spirited pieces where instrumental lines dance above the pulsing beat of the cajon, lovely melodies set in lush, ever changing textures, and plain old fun, hand-clapping songs, inviting the audience to connect to a sound that is simultaneously new and familiar.

There is no admission charge, but the band will happily accept donations in support of their upcoming CD recording project.

Although they encourage folks to purchase a membership in their organization (which is not free), just joining in on an occasional bike ride with the Portland Wheelmen Touring Club is usually free.

An interesting ride this weekend:
Holiday Express Ride
Distance 28 miles. Leaves 10:30am from SE 47th & Steele (Woodstock Park). A train buffs’ delight!! Ride next to the famous #4449… a truly majestic steam locomotive!!...if you like trains it does not get any better!!....it’s holiday time in the big city!! Check out the pictures at: http://www.orhf.org/holidayexpress/index.html

We’ll be on the Eastbank Esplanade twice to take it all in...a gently climb to the Rose Garden for the view, back through NW Portland with a final stop for coffee or eats on Woodstock Blvd. Level: B+ Non-group ride. Ride leader: Benn Schonman 503.775.8300
