Just an additional, clarifying comment… You have to be a member of either the Portland Chinese or Japanese Garden to have free admission to the alternate garden (i.e. If you have a membership to the Chinese Garden, then you are able to visit the Japanese Garden for free and visa versa). If you are not a member of either garden, then you need to pay admission.

Actually, it is free to everybody on November 11th according to the website. It’s free to members of either garden all month long.

Very interesting… We went that day and we all had to pay. They said that it was only free that day if we were members of the other garden.

Hmm, that is interesting. When the Japanese Garden website said “Free and Open to the Public” I assumed that meant free to all.
