First Thursday Recommendation

October 2nd, 2008

First Thursday is here again, and I have a personal recommendation for you. Be sure to stop by the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) for the opening of “Small Press: The Art and Business of Loaded Hips Press and Red Bat Press” featuring artwork by Shannon Buck and Carye Bye.

The show’s name “Small Press” has two meanings: both women own small businesses and both make small-size prints. At the opening, you’ll get a chance to meet both artists and hear about how they create their art and run their businesses.

Here are the details:

When:
6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday, October 2, 2008
(Art show open to the public during IPRC open hours through January 30, 2009)

Shannon Buck of Loaded Hips Press and Carye Bye of Red Bat Press present a joint show of small prints (lino-cut, woodblock, letterpress, and mixed media). Both printers met at the Independent Publishing Resource Center (which has a full letterpress print shop) around 2002-2003 and launched their own small businesses making and selling prints. This show will tell their story, process, and show a collection of prints from each press.
