  • Portland Art Open: Portland Art Open is a three-day art event & party showcasing the range of talents and styles of Portland’s artists.   • American Indian Day Celebration: Local area American Indian organizations will host a celebration of American Indian cultures at Pioneer Courthouse Square from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Northwest tribal leaders, drum groups, dancers, and arts and crafts vendors will share their talents and experiences. Visit the event website for more information.

  • ActivSpace Open House: Artists, jewelers, crafters, designers, and small business owners open their doors. Meet artists in their workspaces. Local bands will perform.   • Polish Festival: This two-day event includes performances by Polish dance groups and music bands, a polka contest, Polish food and more.   • Welcome the Rain: Celebrate our abundant rainfall and learn about rain-related issues such as bike commuting in the rain, rain gardens, and more.   • GreenWalks: Explore Oaks Bottom with a guide from Portland Parks & Recreation. 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Appropriate for adults and families.   • Ten Toe Guided Walk: Take a free Tram ride to OHSU and hike the trails of Marquam Nature Park as we climb to Council Crest Park and back. Meeting place: Tram stop, north of SW Whitaker and River Parkway. 9:00 am. Distance: 4 miles. Time: 2.5 hours. Visit the event website for more information.

  • Children’s book author Amber Keyser will bring camping equipment and her picture book “An Algonquin Heart Song: Paddle My Own Canoe” to share what it’s like to go on a canoe trip.   • Fiesta con Animales/Party with the Animals: In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Oregon Zoo’s animals will be visiting libraries.   • SCRAP Art Activity: Kids and their families are invited to work with artist Emily Weisbard of SCRAP to create a unique piece of art from reused and reclaimed materials.   • Vietnamese Film at Midland Library: “Journey From the Fall” is about a family’s experience in the Vietnam War and their immigration to America.   • Oregon Encyclopedia Project Community Meeting: Oregonians who are interested in our history and culture are encouraged to research and write authoritative articles for the Oregon Encyclopedia Project.   • Polish Festival: This two-day event includes performances by Polish dance groups and music bands, a polka contest, Polish food and more.   • Family Discovery Sunday at Museum of Contemporary Craft: Using discarded color strips from the edges of printed books, participants will divert paper headed to the recyclery and create paper vessels and other art objects. 724 NW Davis St, 1:00 pm–4:00 pm.   • Natural Cycles Exhibit Family Day: Join in a community celebration of the new art exhibit featuring local examples of natural art.   • Oktoberfest at Edgefield: The celebration includes live music, bellydancers, balloon twisting, plant sale and more.     ActivSpace Open House
    Friday, Sept. 26 (5-9 p.m.) and Saturday, Sept. 27 (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
    833 SE Main St., Portland

    Dozens of small Portland businesses innovate, create and even make the world a better place at ActivSpace, a four-story studio community in Southeast Portland. Normally, you need connections to get in the door. But for two days, you can spy, browse, shop, meet and greet at the building’s first major open house, hosted by more than 25 entrepreneurs–from artists to massage therapists, upholsters to designers.

    Visitors can tour the art and business studios and buy cool stuff in the west parking lot. ActivSpace’s resident eatery, Black Sheep Bakery, will sell barbecue of the vegetarian and carnivorous varieties. Local musicians will rock the lot. And the mini-bike dance troupe The Sprockettes and Zoo Bomber bicycle troupes will take the stage.

    Greyday Records will be hosting a pair of showcases throughout the evening and night of Friday, September 26 to celebrate the ActivSpace OPEN HOUSE, the Portland Art Open, and our 6th anniversary! Admission to both events is free and will feature local music, art, performances, and craftmakers/local businesses showcasing and sharing their wares…

    Healthy Kids’ Fair at Legacy Meridian Park
    9/22/08 - On Sept. 27, kids are invited to bring their parents and come to the seventh annual Healthy Kids’ Fair at Legacy Meridian Park Hospital, Saturday, September 27, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., 19300 S.W. 65th Avenue, Tualatin. The Healthy Kids’ Fair is a fun way for children to learn about health and safety through plenty of hands-on, interactive activities planned to delight and engage kids of all ages.

    Some of the activity stations featured at the event include a bike helmet sale with expert fitting (bike helmets are sold at a nominal fee of $5; ski and snowboard helmets are $20); car seat safety check for proper installation; and poison prevention featuring Mr. Yuk. Children will also enjoy seeing emergency vehicles, looking at X-rays, testing their strength and balance, and even getting to perform surgery on a Teddy bear.

    All are welcome and the event is free. The event is sponsored by Metro West. The Legacy Meridian Park Healthy Kids’ Fair will be held in the Community Health Education Center (CHEC) on the north side of the Meridian Park Hospital campus.
