According to a recent survey, most of the money problems arise out of people’s indifferent attitude towards their own financial reality. In our day-to-day life we can be a little more ambitious and try to save money by coming up with thousands of innovative ways. We can maintain savings account so that we can put aside a portion of their liquid assets that could be used to make purchases later on.

All this talk about oatmeal and I'm getting excited about winter with all the warm foods and hot chocolate. That Virtual Coupon Organizer looks awesome - I will definitely be looking into that. Thanks so much for posting all these ideas because I never would have found them on my own. To return the favor, we recently posted on our blog about a site we found with tons of sales, coupons and even free gift cards. I'll be checkin back here though for the current sales going on. Thanks!

From reader Stephanie:

Thanks for your awesome blog about saving money; I've never in my life been as frugal as I need to be right now. I just wanted to share how my family buys oatmeal. Since we don't want to eat genetically modified (GMO) oats, we bought a 25 lb. bag of oats from Bob's Red Mill in Clackamas. The bag costs less than $15, meaning that it costs about $.60 a pound. A box of 12 single servings contains .74 lbs. total. As you may know, a pound of oatmeal makes a lot more than 12 of those tiny servings. (My three-year-old son would eat that size serving but the grown-ups eat double that.) So even after all that coupon-clipping, buying the pure, natural, local oats is cheaper.

I have to share my very exciting find yesterday while coming home from a camping trip on Hwy 224. I saw a sign for local pears for $.49/ lb. so we stopped. Alice's Country Market had two kinds of pears at $.59/ lb. Hood River apples at $.99/lb., donut peaches at $.99/lb, elberta peaches at $.99/lb., green peppers 5 for $1, Hood River corn 5 for $1, organic cucumbers 5 for a $1. I bought a ton of apples especially since they'll store well in the basement. I've bought cheap produce on many occasions that was on it's way out but most of this is local, top quality produce. This place is only a couple miles past Clackamas. It's still out of the way for us but we stopped at the Costco in Clackamas and will start doing that monthly to stock up on staples.
