Free Summer Fun: Outdoor Movies in Portland

June 25th, 2008

Coming soon to a park near you: Free movies! No lines, no fees and no restrictions on outside food!

Over the next few weeks, parks and outdoor venues across Portland will host movie screenings under the stars. Among the film selections, you’ll find classics and recent releases, most of which are family-friendly. Here are the events I’m aware of:

“Big Screen on the Green” in Portland’s parks: Assorted evenings in July, August and September

“Flicks on the Bricks” at Pioneer Courthouse Square: Friday evenings in July and August

Multnomah Outdoor Cinema at Multnomah Arts Center: Selected Friday evenings in June, July and August

Movies on Ecotrust’s back patio: Tuesday evenings through September 2.

Movies in the Pearl (Jamison Square): August 7 and September 4.

“Flicks by the Fountain” at Beaverton City Park: Friday evenings in August

Movies at Millennium Plaza Park in Lake Oswego: Thursday evenings in July and August

Movies in Vancouver parks: Friday evenings in August

Uptown Movie Nights in downtown Vancouver: Saturday evenings until August 9

Movies at Mary S. Young Park in West Linn: Saturday evenings in June and July

Movies at Memorial Park in Wilsonville (once you click on the link, look under “City Seasonal Events” and click on “Movies in the Park”): Friday evenings in July and August

Movies at Tualatin Commons (check the Events Calendar): Saturday evenings in July and August

Flicks in Columbia Park in Troutdale (this link is a PDF file; you can also visit Troutdale website for updates): Saturday evenings in August

Movies in North Clackamas Parks: Selected Fridays and Saturdays in July and August. A different park each time.

Pix on the Plaza in Downtown Hillsboro: Thursday evenings in August.

McMenamins Edgefield (click on “Movie Listings”): Thursday evenings in July and August.

If you know of any other events, please share.

By the way, I know the person who is organizing the Princess Bride screening in Lents Park. Although the details are still in the works, he plans to show the movie as part of a larger event featuring a variety of activities and a costume contest. It’ll be a blast—I mean it.
