June 6–8: Northwest Film Center Hosting Free Egyptian Film Festival at Portland Art Museum
June 4th, 2008
The Northwest Film Center is giving the community a free opportunity to experience contemporary Egyptian cinema. According to the NWFC website:
Working in an environment of government censorship that has made the overtly political problematic, during the last decade filmmakers have nonetheless explored a broad array of themes—from gender relations to feminism, from Islam to popular ideas about sexuality and morality—and found expression within the mainstream tradition.
The films in this series offer frank, contemporary views of issues confronting a tradition-bound society as it grapples with changing values in a modern world.
The series includes six movies:
- I Love Cinema
- Leisure Time
- Women’s Love
- Diary of a Teenager
- A Girl’s Secret
- The Magician
All films will be shown at the Northwest Film Center’s Whitsell Auditorium at the Portland Art Museum (1219 SW Park Avenue), and admission is free.
For show times and more information, visit the Northwest Film Center website.
