$2 Admission to OMSI on First Sunday of Each Month

Thanks to donations from Bank of America and Boeing, general admission to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is just $2 on the first Sunday of each month. The price covers the museum’s five exhibit halls including the exhibit Dinosaurs: China’s Ancient Giants.

Bank of America Offers Free Admission to Select Museums

Although this promotion is not valid in Oregon, I thought I’d mention it in case you plan to travel over the next year:

Bank of America has a promotion called Museums on Us. If you’re a Bank of America ATM, credit or check card holder, you can visit participating museums for free on the first weekend of each month. Currently, the offer is running in 18 states including Washington, Florida, California and New York.

It’s possible that Bank of America will include more locations as time goes on, so be sure to check here for updates or sign up for the mailing list at the BoA website. The program lasts through April 2009.

May 17: Children’s/Maternity Clothing Swap in Portland

On May 17, PDXSwap and Milagro’s Boutique are hosting a swap for children’s and maternity clothes. This is a great way to clear out your kids’ outgrown clothes and trade them for things they can use. Moms-to-be are also invited even if you have nothing to trade yet. Items that don’t find new owners will be donated to a local charity. The event is free. Here are the details:

When: Saturday, May 17
There will be three swaps based on size. Each swap will last about 30 minutes. Arrive early.
11:00 am: size 0 through size 24 months and maternity clothing
11:30 am: sizes 2T to 6
12:00 pm: sizes 7 to 14+

Where: Milagro’s Boutique, 5433 NE 30th Avenue, Portland, 97211

Bring: Maternity/kids’ clothes in good condition with no rips, stains, etc. You may also bring other kid-related items such as shoes, accessories, baby bottles, books, CDs, DVDs/videos and small toys. To help the event run smoothly, PDXSwap asks that you sort the clothes by size before arriving. According to organizer Jennifer, there’s no requirement on the number of items you need to bring or the amount you can take; the only requirement is that you be respectful and have fun.

On Thursday, May 15, McDonald’s is giving away its new Southern Style Chicken Biscuit and Southern Style Chicken Sandwich with the purchase of a medium or large drink. You can get the free biscuit from 7:00 am to 10:30 am, and the free sandwich from 10:30 am to 7:00 pm.

Free Jazz Concerts at Portland’s RiverPlace Hotel Each Weekend

Jazz fans have one more reason to love the Rose City.

RiverPlace Hotel’s Three Degrees Lounge now hosts live jazz performances—with no cover or minimum—every Friday and Saturday. The music lasts from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. PDX Jazz (organizer of the Portland Jazz Festival) is co-founder of this ongoing series of shows featuring regional jazz musicians.
