Update:
The 40th Annual Holiday Cheer & Authors’ Party will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2007 in the James F. Miller Pavilion at the Oregon Historical Society. More than sixty-five authors from the Pacific Northwest will be signing copies of their latest books from noon until 4:00 pm. Admission to the event and Oregon Historical Society Museum is free. Friday, November 30

  • Beaverton is having its tree lighting celebration at 6:00 pm at the Beaverton Round Central MAX Station near Millikan Way and Watson Avenue. There’ll be children’s craft workshops, musical performances by the Rock Creek Elementary School Choir and Radio Disney, treats for the kids, and Santa.   • Holiday Ale Festival is happening at Pioneer Courthouse Square all weekend. Friday and Saturday: 11:00 am to 10:00 pm. Sunday: 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Admission is free. A one-time purchase 2007 souvenir mug is required for tasting beer and costs $5. At the bar, patrons pay for each mug of beer with script which are $1 each. Saturday, December 1

  • The Audubon Society of Portland is hosting a Holiday Open House. Saturday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Sunday, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The event features live bluegrass music and free workshops on attracting and observing urban wildlife plus storytime with puppets for the kids.   • Oregon City’s tree lighting event is happening at 4:30 pm in Liberty Plaza, located in Historic Downtown Oregon City on Main Street next to the Clackamas County Courthouse. Santa arrives at 5:00 pm. Music and refreshments available. For more information, visit the Oregon City website.

  • West Linn’s tree lighting celebration will be happening at City Hall at 6:30 pm. Performance by the West Linn Community Chorus, a sing-along, cookie decorating, refreshments. For more information, visit the West Linn website.

  • Tennis player Stan Smith will be at the Adidas Originals store from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. According to the Willamette Week: Did you know Stan Smith is alive? The tennis legend (and shoe inspiration) is not only still kicking it, but he’ll be making a rare appearance, in honor of the Davis Cup, at the Adidas Originals store. To celebrate, Adidas commissioned a few local artists to create work in honor of Stan! Adidas Originals, 1039 NW Couch St., 226-2139.

  • River City Bicycles is hosting a holiday party and one-man show with Portland’s own Joe “Metal Cowboy” Kurmaskie. Celebrate the holidays in hilarious style with Joe “Metal Cowboy” Kurmaskie. He’s been called Bill Bryson on a bike by the Boston Globe and David Sedaris Trapped In The Body of Lance Armstrong by USA Today. Family-friendly fun: multimedia performance, demo, Q&A, swag giveaway and book signing—all proceeds go to Camp Creative “No Child Left Inside!” Free beer. 5:30 pm doors open, show at 6:00 pm.   • Guitarist Peter Zisa will perform at the Old Church at 7:30 pm. The evening will feature notable Portland musicians and will introduce Young Talent Artists of the community.
