Free Events in Portland This Weekend: Sept 7–9

Here’s the weekly round-up of free events happening this weekend.

Friday, September 7

Grizzly Bear and Deerhunter will be performing at 5:30 pm at Audio Cinema (226 SE Madison). Doors open at 4:30 pm. This show is part of Musicfest NW. If you don’t have a wristband, you can pick up a free pass to this show at Jackpot Records’ Downtown location (203 SW 9th Avenue) or Southeast location (3736 SE Hawthorne) starting at 10:00 am on Friday. The City of Tigard is hosting its annual Family Fest. Tonight is Movie Night at 7:00 pm in the Tigard Library Community Room. ”Bridge to Terebithia” will be showing. Free snacks. For more information, visit the City of Tigard website.

The Multnomah Outdoor Cinema will be showing “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” at the Multnomah Arts Center (7688 SW Capitol Highway in the Village). Live Bluegrass music at 7:00 pm. Movie starts at dusk (sometime between 8:15 and 9:00 pm). For more information, visit www.multnomahoutdoorcinema.org.

Benji and Joel of the band Good Charlotte will be playing 2 to 3 acoustic songs and signing autographs at the Verizon Wireless Bridgeport Pointe Store from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Indulge your sweet tooth at the Celebration of Courage family festival sponsored by the Children’s Cancer Association. This year’s festival features ambiance a la Willy Wonka, as well as art activities, “mad science” experiments, live music, balloon art, face painting, jugglers, acrobats and stilt-walkers. The Tigard Family Fest is hosting several free events throughout the day: a 5K Run/Walk, free breakfast, treasure hunt of downtown Tigard, magic show with Magician Tom Waldrop, concert by the Tualatin Valley Community Band, fireworks and free ice cream.
