Free Events This Weekend in Portland

Before I get to the free events for the weekend, I just want to mention 2 things:

1. The Mississippi Avenue Second Thursday Social is tonight. Second Thursday Social is a monthly event where local businesses host music, art exhibits, wine and food tastings, and more. The action takes place on Mississippi Avenue between Fremont and Skidmore from 6 pm to 10 pm. For more information, click here.  

2. The Bite is happening this weekend. Admission is $7 for adults, and children 12 and under get in free. I think this is a great price to experience the festival’s music and other entertainment. None other than 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Patti Smith will be performing on Sunday. There are discounts available, click here for more information.

Now here are some free events happening this weekend:

Friday, August 10:

  • Curtis Salgado (blues) will be performing at the Washington Park Amphitheatre Stage at 6 pm. For more information, visit the Portland Parks website.

  • Justin Carroll will be performing at Edgefield at 7 pm. 21 and over. For more information, visit the Edgefield website.

  • “Charlotte’s Web” (2006 version) will be playing at Beaverton City Park (located across the street from the Beaverton City Library). The movie will begin at dusk (sometime between 8:10 pm and 8:40 pm). For more information, visit the Beaverton Parks website.

  • Pioneer Courthouse Square will be showing “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at dusk.

  • “The Wizard of Oz” will be playing at Dickinson Park. Start time is between 8:00 pm and 8:45 pm. For more information, visit the Portland Parks website.

  • “Happy Feet” will be playing at Memorial Park in Wilsonville at dusk. Lawn opens at 8:15 pm. For more information, visit the Wilsonville website.

  • Masque Alfresco will perform “The Misanthrope” at George Rogers Park, Ladd & So. State Street, Lake Oswego, 6:30 pm–8:00 pm (check website for more information).
